More than two hundred turned up. There were fourteen goalkeepers!
Sky News were there and Five Live. Various newspapers and there was also a Japanese TV Station represented.

just out of interest, what sort of attendances did Hayes get whilst in the conference? I seem to remember they were around the 650 mark, is that right?

Yeah it was around 650 depending on who we were playing went to a few home games during the conference days when we had over 1000 we had a lot attendances around the 800 mark too.Now we or should i say Hayes & Yeading Utd get a average attendance of around 300 to 350.Our best home attendance last season was 505 against Aldershot in the FA Trophy they played us of the pitch beating us 5 0 they were a very good team of players.

H and Y improved as the season went on, didn't they!
I'm sure Geoff can back me up here, when Southall played Boxing day and Easter games at home against Hayes duringthe early sixties, the gates would have been between 1,500 and 2,000. I well remember dear Reg Short, what a player he was. A Southall legend.

Yeah we had a poor start to the season but a good middle part of the season when we the beat the likes of Lewes 2 1 at home and Bromley 6 1 at home but in the last few months of the season we were very inconsistent.
