I'd be a total liar if I was to say 'Park View being expelled from the league was a bad thing for Southall FC.' It's true we lost heavily to them (was never a 5-0 game though) but so did a lot of other teams and and some teams had yet to face them home or away. To be perfectly honest I would have settled for Park View being docked the points for unfulfilled fixtures and lengthy bans for the players involved in the charge of assaulting an official. Now this is the sticky part, as no players could definately be identified (The Referee identified the players but his assistant/s couldn't be 100% sure) as the perpetrators of the charge, a lesser charge had to be brought against certain individuals. The fact that the players received, what many thought, were extremely lenient punishments, annoyed a majority of clubs in the league, who therefore called for the SGM. I wasn't at the meeting, (other pressing engagements on the night) so I cannot state what exactly went on but I have been informed Park View were given the chance to identify the players involved but chose not to.
Once Park View decided not to name the players involved it was only a matter of time before you could hear the sound of the nails being driven into their coffin! If they had of named the players involved would the outcome have been different? Yes, I honestly think it would have (as long as they had also kicked the players out of their club).
Their expulsion helps us in the league because Bedfont Sports, Bethnal Green (both 3pts) & Newham Borough (6pts from 2 games that were awarded) all who are presently above us, will all have the wins null & void. But sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles......
